Why Summoner?
Summoners are easily, the best PvP class, IF used properly. People call priests and archers "overpowered." Although this is true (to some extent), Summoner has the ability to beat them all. Trust me, as a level 50 Summoner, I know from experience.
PROS:
1/2 damage Buff: At level 12, you can get "United Force of MP," which shares the damage between you and your pet, ONLY when YOU are hit. It does not apply when the Pet is hit. However, what many people do not know is with this buff, you will be nearly invincible as long as your pet is alive. If your HP is dangerously low, it will continue to halve until 1. For example, if your HP is 100, and you keep getting hit. It will go 100->50->25->12->6->3->2->1. Only at the 1 HP mark will you die.
Massive damage output:
At a lower level, it may seem your damage is not up to par with priests or wizards. But remember, you also have a pet doing nearly the same damage as you. So at a higher level, the differences between damage of you with your pet versus, or example, a wizard leaves you as the winner. EXAMPLE: on a normal hit, I hit ~300, while my pet hits ~250, and a Wizard hits about 400. 550 > 400.
PvP domination:
In German and Japanese 4Story, Summoners are the epitome of ownage in those servers. Even in this server, Summoners are becoming to surface as the best PvP class.
Multitasking:
With 2 things to control, if you or the pet are incapacitated (i.e. Stun, Blind, Fear, etc), you have the other counterpart to either take the aggro off, keep dealing damage, etc.
Looks:
Ever been in town and seen a huge level 40 dragon walking around, following someone? Who doesn't want a pet?
CONS:
Reliability on your pet:
Life as a summoner, you rely heavily on your pet. If it dies, the 1/2 damage buff no longer applies, leaving you an open target to basically anything that deals decent damage.
Late AoE skill:
The Summoner probably has the latest full-damage AoE skill out of the caster classes. They get the Judgement of Nature skill at level 26. Though the grind may seem long, don't worry. If you're like me, tough it out, and you will be greatly awarded.
Pet's movement speed: Yeah, your pet will move at the speed of smell while you're mounted. Nuff said.
Tips or Strategies for PvP
As always, you must never let your pet die. If low, always remember to heal. If it looks like it's about to die, use Sacrifice, killing your pet for 6 seconds of invinciblility. If you can't do enough in those 6 seconds, kiss your heiny good-bye. Also, both of the level 24 summon skill pets have a stun ability. Try to use those as early as you can, and use your aoe whenever they are stunned, slow, etc. The Silence skill helps a LOT on priests, disabling their heal and invincible skills.
